Goodwill letters

I have an auto loan with Chase that is current and I also had one with them where I had many lates on.  Is it worth it to send them a goodwill letter to try to get the old lates from the old auto loan deleted, or should I just wait for the 7 years and have them fall off?  Also, are goodwill letters successfull in trying to get old accounts that are closed and reporting as negative deleted?

Thanks

As my mom used to say 'Nothing beats a failure but a try...'.  I understand Chase is stingy with the good will and as far as a closed account deleting negs, well you've already moved on so they have no motivation such as keeping your business.

Here's the link to the GW letters:

GW = Goodwill Letter.  Definition: Humble plea for help to the creditors asking them to remove derogatory information from your credit report.  They are not legally liable to do so, and most will not do it on your first attempt.
