HELP! Creditors not updating account information

How long does a creditor have to update information on an account??? I like many are trying to improve my credit score, I'm on the right track, but how can that happen if accounts are not updated frequently? For example, I have 2 accounts, one from a CC company that was payed off 3 months ago (now zero balance), and another from a bank (auto loan) that has decreased 10k in the last year, But neither have been updated over the last year. How can a person improve their credit if information is updated frequently? Can I contact these companies and request they send an update??

Thanks

Re: HELP! Creditors not updating account information

Certainly you can ask, and I would recommend you do so.  But remember, a company is not REQUIRED to report.  However, if they do regularly report to the CB's, maybe they have some incorrect information in your file.

Who are the lenders?

Unless they are some oddball, peanut-gallery lenders, I suspect that there is something wrong with the demographics on either your credit reports or with the lenders, so that reported info isn't winding up on your credit reports. When names are misspelled, addresses don't match, SSN's are different, etc., the data doesn't map over.

Re: HELP! Creditors not updating account information

The lenders are a big bank (USBank), and a jewelry company (Zales). i would think those would be large enough to report regularly, they certainly don't hesitate when a purchase is made. I'll just contact them directly and see what i can do.

Thanks!
