Question - when I started rebuilding my credit, I used a credit repair company b/c I was lazy and knew nothing about doing it myself. Like I've said before, I am happy with the results that they provided, although it was costly, it was also very easy! Anyway, the first thing they did was to pull a tri-merge report through a mortage company (with my permission and payment). That was in Sept. 08. In Feb. 09, I was anxious to see the results of all the money that I'd spent, so I asked them to pull another report (great results by the way). Both times, they did a hard inquiry, and NOW that I know what the heck I'm doing, I just realized that the CBs now think that I'm looking for a line of credit.
Any idea if I could get these changed from a hard inquiry to a soft inquiry if I wrote to the bureaus and explained the situation? If that won't work, could I contact the mortgage company directly - do you think they'd be willing to delete the inquiries based on the circumstances? I'm sure my FICO scores are suffering because of my stupidity!

Your only option would be to ask the creditor to recode.
However, IMO, these inquiries are likely not costing you that many points.
TU reinserted 12 inquiries(all were pulled in the last year) on spouse's CR. Pulled a new score and the only other change was a good standing account for some reason was removed and I think the score was down 2 points.
You can ask the company that did you credit repair to give you a letter stating that the inquiries be reclassified to soft inquiries or removed. Transunion is strict with inquiries whereas equifax removed them with a simple letter. TU considers inquiries to be a matter of fact meaning they can not be disputed.

Thanks to all that replied to my question. I am going to ask the creditor to recode to see if that makes a difference in my score - I'll let ya'll (can you tell I'm from the SOUTH!!??) know what how it goes.
