Good morning.
Just wondering if I'm missing something here...
Opened a Synchrony Care Credit account in March 2022. There was no record of the hard pull on my card on my last EQ CR. No soft pull either. Today (6/7/22), I recieved a notice there was a hard inquiry on my account. I hadn't applied for anything so I checked.
Now the Synchrony hard inquiry is showing with today's date.
Does that normally happen? I thought that was immediate, esp since Synchrony had been reporting my credit card as opened w a balance since April.
Thanks in advance and, also, my apologies if this is an obvioys/newbie question. I haven't paid much attention to my credit until a few months ago. I'm reading all I can but most of it has been on credit repair. The whole CC world is new to me.
thank you!
Openning a CC with a NEW creditor always needs HP. You can reach to them and ask for details (it might be an error or glitch to report inquiry correctly). Some places like Amex may use SP for application review, but you should have some CC with them.
To minimize unexpected HP, placing lock/freeze on all credit reports is recommended.
Do not automatically assume that the credit pull with today's date is associated with your application and approval dating back from approximately 3 months ago. Unless and until Synchrony confirms otherwise you should treat this incident as attempted fraud.
I would contact Synchrony directly and tell them you got an alert that they hard pulled your Equifax report today but you had not applied for credit. Depending upon the outcome of that conversation you may need to take other steps but you should engage Synchrony first.
