Hard pull to check my credit

So back in June, I attended a First-Time Home Buyers Seminar from Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Delaware Valley.  I went mainly for the $25 money order everyone got, but I was also intrigued bu the "tri-merged credit report with three credit scores" they were also going to give me.  This was before I knew about MyFICO and that I'd be getting FAKOs.  Anyway, about a month later (end of July)  I got my report and for each bureau, there is a HARD PULL from "CSC Credit Services" for "CCCS of DELEWARE [sic] VAL"  I just checked my reports from all three CRBs and actually, Equifax doesn't mention CCCS, but Experian has coded it as "Conventional Mortgage of behalf of CCCS of DELEWARE [sic] VALLEY"

I did not apply for any credit from them.  How do I go about either removing the inquiry or changing it to a soft one?  Do I contact CCCSDV, or CSC, or the CRBs?

Also, I did have my credit run by Countrywide Mortgage to be preapproved for a mortgage about two weeks later.  As mentioned above. I just pulled my reports and I see that they did a hard pull TWICE, on August 14, and August 15.  It was done through Landsafe.  So again, who do I contact about removing the extra inquiries, Countrywide's main phone number/address, the agent I worked with, Landsafe, or the CRBs directly?

I was trying to refinance a car loan and used one of those sites that have "lenders compete" so I have about 20 hard inquiries on my reports so if I can get 2 of them off it should help.  Thanks!

Re: Hard pull to check my credit

For the CCCS inquiry, if you wanted it off, then try contacting whoever is reporting. If you have a CMS like TC or if you have a copy of your reports, you should find a reporting address for that inquiry through which a letter can be sent.

Any inquiries within a 14 or 30 day window (depending on CRA) for mortgages are counted as one for scoring purposes and any extra inquiries within that window are ignored by FICO. Same goes for auto inquiries.

Mike, IMO, if by your "intrigue" you gave them your information to pull your report, then you gave them permission. If it was a mortgage institution, which pulled the tri-merge report, then I would bet dollars to donuts that they pulled your FICOs.

Re: Hard pull to check my credit

It looks like I  got a "Beacon" score from EQ, an "Empirica" score from TU, and a "Fair Isaac" (I assume this is FICO) from EX.  Does getting scores require a hard pull?

No.

Re: Hard pull to check my credit

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I got a detailed report with every TL on it too, not just the scores.  What information does a hard pull get you that can't be gotten from a soft pull, or does the information not change, just the consequences?

If you self-initiated the pull (like through here, the CRAs, a CMS, etc.) there will never be a hard pull, only soft.

Great question on the info bit for hard vs. soft. I've read conflicting info. Here's probably the best summary:

Re: Hard pull to check my credit

Well based on that thread, they should have done a soft pull, because the way it was advertised, it seemed to me that it was an incentive for people to come to their seminar and they were performing a service for them.  It's a little like WaMu's TU FICO score.  How could they say "we'll give you free scores" but them make it NOT free (you pay for it with the hard inq.)?  They could but it doesn't seem right to me!  I'll see if I can have them recode it to a soft.  Is there any time limit on that?

Re: Hard pull to check my credit

Mike, getting those scores from a third party (Beacon=EQ FICO, Emperica = TU FICO and FI = EX FICO), DOES require a hard pull. The only way that you are not going to get a hard for your FICOs is if you get them from here or another source that sells FICOs (like transunioncs.com for your TU FICO).

They may not have made it clear that you will be hard pulled, but you gave them your info and they pulled your reports. You can maybe go back to them and see if they will recode to a soft. GL with that one though.

Really?  I don't think I've ever heard that mentioned before...
