Hi All,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I had a question. In 2009 I almost lost my home to foreclosure but I was able to come up with enough money to catch my loan up and get my home out of foreclosure. Well my credit report is showing a foreclosure status for the months of July and June in 2009 then it shows current after that. Does anyone know if I could get this removed since my home was never actually foreclosed on?
You can try two different approaches one see if the lender can submit a request to have this changed. It may be a mistake in there reporting. If that does not work see if you can get a letter or something writing stating that and them submit that with your dispute to Experian.
The notes may relate to the fact that the foreclosure process was begun also. When we think of foreclosure we normally relate it to the completion of the process and the loss of the home. To the bank the process starts much earlier when they file the notice of default and begin the process. The bank is likely to say that their reporting is correct. Rather than dispute I would suggest that you try to get goodwill from the bank and have them delete the negative information that way if they will. It will probably take multiple attempts and many No's before you get a Yes if you ever do. If you don't then it will naturally age off of your reports in 7 years as the reporting time period elapses. And as it ages farther back it will have less negative effect on your current credit score.
Thank you I will try that and maybe see if sending them a letter once a month will get it removed. Also if you don't mind may I ask how long it took you to get your score from the 500's to 701? Tha's impressive!
Thank you I really haven't tried contacting them about it until now I didn't know how much it was impacting my score. I'm going to try both of these and hopefully something will stick. At this point I'm desperately trying to fix my credit and the mess that I've made so I'm willing to do whatever it takes!
FICO score improvement is mostly a matter of time. My score went up dramatically when my LAST derogatory item aged off and my reports were clean. A judgment kept my score in the mid 600's until it finally aged off. The other parts of raising scores just involved paying on time to not accumulate new negatives and being careful about adding new accounts to allow age to accumulate in the credit profile. Overall my journey was about three years but many in these forums have been able to see dramatic improvement quickly with diligent work and the cooperation of some creditors removing derogatory information.
