Great point, Oldman. I know the official wisdom is that V3 does include closed accounts in its age-related scoring factors, but I agree it would be helpful to see the basis for that again.

Nope. VS2.0 also counted closed accounts. Maybe it was from the TU New Account Score they had available way back when?
Or, more likely, it's just plain wrong. And has been all along.
