Can anyone tell me how long it takes for hard inquiries from credit card applications to show up on your credit report? I've tried searching and have gotten everything from instantly to up to 30 days - does it vary, and what would cause the difference?
I'm asking because I am trying to start some disputes to remove a hard inquiry. I recently applied for a credit card and was automatically denied because the offer (unbeknownst to me at the time - the company's website still had the application available and did not mention any expiration). I spoke with a manager at the company (Discover), who said that I could re-apply and undergo an additional inquiry for the second application, but that they would be willing to remove the first inquiry if I disputed it through the credit bureaus. The first time I applied was June 1 and they pulled EX and EQ. I ordered my credit reports, which show a report date of June 2 and report the June 1 inquiry. I re-applied on June 9th and was instantly approved, and was about to send my dispute letters out today when I checked my reports online and noticed that although the report dates updated to June 12, neither show an additional inquiry from Discover, just the first one. I called Discover, who confirmed that they pulled EX and EQ both times and made a separate inquiry for each application. I don't know if it would be wise to send my dispute letters concerning two inquiries when only one appears to be showing up so far, but I am moving in less than 2 months and was hoping to be able to resolve this before then. I am confused as to why, if Discover did indeed make separate inquiries on both the 1st and the 9th, the first inquiry showed up immediately but the second one hasn't even after three days.
Can anyone enlighten me as to what's going on? I'd like to hope that the second inquiry just didn't actually happen or got rolled into the first one (even though Discover said that was only for multiple inquiries within a 3-day time period, and the new accounts department did say that they pulled twice), but I'm far too cynical to put much stock in that. I'm just confused as to why there would be a delay with one inquiry when another from the same company went through immediately.
A hard inquiry should show up on your report as soon as it is made.
It's possible the credit reporting agency thought the second hp was a mistake and didn't report it. In a way it was a mistake as you went for the same card twice.
Hm, so you think it's more likely that the second inquiry just won't show up at all than that it's being slow to report?
You can have two app windows open and hit submit on the first one and that inquiry will show up when you hit the second app. If the second app was the 9th and still wasn't there the 12th ya in my opinion it wont show up. But as always your mileage may very.
