Identity theft again ?

I have had a problem with identity theft back last fall someone tried to open bank accounts under my social.  I have fraud alerts on all of my accounts now as a result.  In one case they succedded with Bank of America who actually opened one.  I filed a police report last year and did all I could to stop this from happening again.  Much to my disbelief, the other day I got an alert from Experian monitoring stating that a bank account from JP morgan chase was opened under my social. I called Chase and they said no such application or account under your social.  I called Experian who claims they do not see any alert and they would escalate it and call me back which of course nobody ever did.  I called Chase a second time and spoke to someone in the fraud dept who again checked into this and didnt see any application or new account.  I should mention I have no dealings with Chase.  What does anyone make of this?  I am naturally still concerned about this and really not sure what to do next?  Does experian send out false alerts?

Re: Identity theft again ?

Sorry you have to deal with this... i've dealt with a lot of identity theft issues in the past, I'd think if Chase shows no account its got to be an error? although I have had issues with citi bank on a credit card where I didn't show in their system, I had alerts from TU and Equifax saying I had a new account and somehow I ... aka the fraudster ... was initially approved for a CC but then denied because something didn't match up, weird but I think glitches like this are possible. I would check with Chase again and maybe chase auto/credit too?

Re: Identity theft again ?

It might be a pain. Get your report from ChexSystem and see if its listed there. If not. Its a CMS glitch.

Re: Identity theft again ?

I will check with Chase again.  I cant imagine they would open an auto loan without pulling my credit which they havent.  That doesnt seem possible particularly since I am not a customer with chase and havent been for well over a decade.  I filed BK 13 years ago and Chase was included so afaik I am black listed.

Does the alert specifically say "bank account"?

Ex JPMorgan Alert.png

It may be important to know specifically how the alert is reported. I have Experian Credit Monitoring and locked/frozen report capability and I have never seen an alert for opening a bank account, credit account yes.. being added as an authorized use also. I've never had a Fraud Alert so I don't know if that adds an extra or different level of alert reporting that tracks bank account openings.

Re: Identity theft again ?

Experian wouldn't typically report bank accounts. They would be reporting a credit card. I'd ask Chase to look into a credit account being opened fraudulently under your name.

Actually....depending on the type of services you pay from EX, you may get alerts of new bank accounts registered along with the regular HP EX alerts and account changes.  I do....
