I've owned over 10 cars within the past 5 years, don't ask why...
Anyway, most banks and credit card companies use verification questions, one popular one is
Prior to such and such date, you may have owned such and such vehicle.
However, the issue is...it NEVER says how far back it goes.
Ok, did I own this car a year ago, 5 years ago, 10 years ago, etc?
The kicker is often several cars appear, and I have OWNED THEM, and only one answer is right.
I think anything on your report regardless of age is fair game for identity verification purposes.
Like you I had a similar situation where I've lived in more than a dozen places in my adult life, and damned if I know what county some of those places are in at this point (wasn't something I'd ever worried about knowing); unlike you I could easily get my old addresses off, but in your case, that's unfortunate.
Same here. Not with cars, but with addresses. I've moved around a lot. And PHONE NUMBERS! Those are the worst. I've had so many numbers and because they're just NUMBERS, they're nowhere near as memorable as a lot of other things. Ugh!
If it's any consolation, though, CSRs will tell you that even the most honest people freak out over those weird security questions and that there are other layers of verification if you flunk those questions.
Interestingly they all ask me the SAME verification question and I always seem to answer before they finish ask.
Have you tried pulling your credit report so you have an idea what is on it (the cars and the time frame i.e.) so when asked you KNOW.
