I just completed a background check for a job, and discovered that I am still dealing with this. Several years ago, I found that my credit reports listed an inaccurate name. The first name is the same, but the last name isn't even close, though they do start with the same letter. So, naturally, I disputed this. It wasn't removed. So, I disputed it again, and it was removed at that time. But, through this background check, I found that the inaccurate name is listed again. I do not have any accounts listed under this other name, and I never have. ALL accounts have been under my actual, legal name. Luckily, whoever this is (assuming it's an actual person), she doesn't seem to be a trouble-maker, but I'd still like to get this removed from my reports. There are no accounts listed on my reports that aren't mine, either. But, I can see how this could potentially cause issues in the future. What can I do, since disputing it isn't going anywhere? I'm frustrated that I keep having to spend time on this.
Would this happen to be on EQ? If so. Welcome to the split file world. Send in all document copies DL, SS card, Utilitiy bills, ect. Certified return mail. I went thru it with EQ due to middle initial was J I'm S. Sent in all documents including my med license. Fixed.
Get a copy of and check your Lexis Nexis Consumer Disclosure and also the full name and/or alias(es) used on the bills of your reporting creditors. In either senario if they have or are providing incorrect information it can reappear on a credit report even if you had previously successfully disputed it off.
@Bianca15 There has to be more than the first name matching in order for that name to be on the credit report. A couple of possibilities both of you share the same address and or your SSN # or similiar. Which bureau is reporting the name?
