Hello, great forum here I just signed up and got my "MyFico" score and it's TU-657, EQ-665, EX-638. I had a MBNA CC back in '95 when I was in College. It had a $500 limit. I paid the minimum for a year or two then missed some payments. Most activity was pre-2000. Now I check my credit report and it says I was on time paying during 2004, then late 30, 60, and 120 days in 2004. I know the last time I sent a payment was in 2001, **maybe** 2002. Why does it say I was on time a few months in '04?? I don't believe the reporting on my credit reports to be accurate. I sent a letter to the CCs requesting they provide evidence to support the information they are reporting but all I got back was some standard form letters stating the total amount of the debt and the same payment history that is reported on my credit report. Essentially the run around. I have a small auto loan for my wifes car which I've been on time paying every month for the past year. Other than that I haven't had much credit activity since I was 18, 12 years ago. I own several cars and a house outright, paid cash for everything. I would like to get my credit in good shape in the event that I need it in the future it's there. I am planning no major purchases in the near future that would require financing. My question is: There is so much info out there in the internet regarding the correction of credit reporting I don't know where to begin. I also don't have the time to research and learn all there is to know. Should I just hire an attorney to investigate the matter? If so what kind of attorney should I hire? Also, I have a complete lack of revolving credit on my credit report. The only current activity is a small auto loan. I always use a Debit card whenever I shop but that does my credit situation no good. I am thinking I would like to apply for a CC and leave only a small balance at the end of each month to improve my credit score. Is there any particular CC I should apply for? Thanks a million,

Thanks Timothy for the reply. Should I be concerned about being approved through WaMu with my Fico scores where they are right now? I have been reading up on the forum about "hard" and "soft" pulls so I don't want to risk lowering my scores any further by applying for cards that are out of my range. If anyone can offer advice regarding my situation with my former MBNA card from 12 years ago, and whether or not I should hire an attorney, or maybe work from the other direction and just continue to build my credit and let the past fall off in time I would appreciate it. thanks for taking the time to help me with my questions.
