Is TranUnion the Ugly Step Child?

Hi:

Background: I have applied for two different types of credit over the past two years: one store credit card (approved), one checking account with overdraft protection, and one auto loan through my credit union (denied), In all situations, all three financial institutions checked Equifax or Experian. This is bad for me because Equifax and Experian have my lowest scores 674 and 676 respectively. Tranunion is 777! I have had one account, a Home Depot credit card, with four late payments over one year ago and I am two years beyond the dismissal of my chapter 13. How come no financial institutions seem to check TransUnion?

Question #1: How long does a Chapter 13 need to age from its dismissal date until credit bureaus start increasing your credit score again?

Question #2: Since the answer is probably based on diversity of credit, what is the correct time period after a BK dismissal to start applying for a new credit card that 1) won't deny you 2) won't kill you in annual fees and other "special charges" and 3) give you a reasonable credit limit of at least $1,000?

My objective is not to accumulate a bunch of hard inquiries and rejections that may paint an unfavorable picture that I am desparate for money which could not be farther from the truth, except for a reasoanble house payment, I have no debt.

Question #3: Any suggestions for a credit card that I might try to apply for? Ihave checked bankrate.com and did find that site too helpful.

Thanks,

Donald

Re: Is TranUnion the Ugly Step Child?

There's a few TU-pullers out there. I believe it all started regionally w/ the CRAs gobbling up marketshare at time went on. I guess TU was a bit slow out of the gate. If you search in these forums, you'll find a few solid examples of TU pullers. Example that come to mind include US Bank, Wachovia, Wells Fargo, Barclays (formerly Juniper), and others. Look at sites like whogavemecredit.com. Also look for approvals from others w/in these forums. There's a few threads in here on TU pulls.

BK - not sure on the answer. One BK for sure is 10 yrs. The others are 7 yrs. Search for the CRTP and BK13 and I bet you'll find something.

There's a few threads on BKs and CCCs. Look around and you'll find some BK friendly CCs.

Make sure you have your FICO scores. It is impossible to pull your own EX FICO score. Per cards, focus on TU if that's your highest score. Also try your local CU or bank you already have a relationship with.
