from the big 3 CRA's? Even if you don't apply for a credit card feature with the ATM?

Re: Is opening a checking account with a new bank an automatic pull

Thanks. I opened an account today (move, new location) and declied the credit card feature on the ATM card because I did not want my credit pulled again for no real credit application. Landlord; Utilities; and now this gives 3 pulls in a month and my score, in the last 2 hours has dropped 51 points. 670 to 619.

Some of the banks in my location might pull a hard inq if and only if a debit card is issued with a checking account.  No hard inq for just opening a savings or a checking account without a debit card.

I'm sorry but I just think that somethings in life, like all of those necessary things, should be credit check free, like lights and water and automobile insurance and apartment rentals.  All of this credit pull business has gotten way out of hand, especially when one considers that if you have kids and don't have running water or electricity, you're in violation of the law, as with automobile insurance -- the law requires it, and obtaining such things,  at a fair and reasonable, nondiscriminatory price or rate, should apply to everyone regardless of their credit scores.  Not all poor people are dead beats, and a credit score just can't determine that fact.

Re: Is opening a checking account with a new bank an automatic pull

Oh Mercy, don't get me started on that whole topic.   Three years ago the phone company wouldn't even give me a phone when I had to move.   No offer of paying a deposit or anything!  Fortunately I'm much better off now than I was then.  The whole credit score and higher insurance rates are ridiculous.   It just seems wrong to me to take someone who is already struggling to make ends meet and charge them so darn much for car insurance that they end up not being able to afford it at all.   Grrr... it makes me mad!
