Just Curious...

My wife and I have identical credit, yet her score is a bit higher than mine (hers: about 810, mine about 790). We have no debt other than 3 mortages (on three separate houses). We use the AMEX to buy groceries, gas, etc. (for the points) but never carry a balance.

Our scores are so high, it doesn't really make a difference (and, no, I'm not jealous, just curious), but I'm wondering what would account for the difference in our scores.

The only thing I can think of is that I have a corporate card, but I use it rarely and never carry a balance.

Any ideas?

Re: Just Curious...

Is her credit history exactly identical? I mean, did she not have any credit prior to your being married? If she had even one CC before you did, it would probably account for it.

When you and she check your reports does the CR give you two the same length of credit history?

Aside from that, seeing as how you've got the same accounts (and a payment on one would reflect on BOTH) I have no idea why that might be? Perhaps FICO's more gentlemanly to the ladies? Smiley Wink

Have you guys printed out your CRs and checked them with fine-tooth comb? I think I would, if you haven't. You might not be jealous (though, I think I would be!! LOL!), but if you're missing a few points that you've EARNED, you ought to have'em!! And IMO, 20 points is enough that I'd spend a few hours doing it!!

Congrats on the high scores!! And a hearty welcome to the forums!! Smiley Happy

Re: Just Curious...

You'd have to check all reports, side-by-side. You'd have to have the exact same open and closed accounts. You'd also have to have the same open dates and exact same payment history. You'd also have to have the same inquiries and all dates would have to match from one report to another. If pulling from MyFICO, the positive and negative comments would have to match and the Credit-at-a-glance page would have to have the exact same info.
