Just added collection

I have a ca reporting as of 6-1-09 a 162.oo debt I had no knowledge about.I'm wondering how to go about finding out who they are and if it is legit(sorry if this has been answered before, but I searched and got no results) thankyou;Jack- PS the dola is 6-1-05 and the ca is 794yc0000,account # XACXT

You need to pull your report from a CRA.  Use this site to get a free one if you are eligible:

I pulled my cr and thats how I found out about the collection.

 myfico scorewatch free trial  eq 652 as of 6-29-09. collection is my only baddie(never missed a payment or paid late) 13 year credit history-utilization is high but I'm working on that. I need to get my score up to refi my interest only home loan

Use the report from the link above to first determine your DOFD. If inside your state's SOL or you don't have the $$$ to PIF, then don't do anything. However, if SOL expired or you have the $$$ to PIF, then start by sending a DV letter to the CA. If they verify and you agree, then send them a PFD letter.
