Hi all
I was shopping for a loan last month.
Anyway Lending Club had the best rate, when I checked their pre-approval number. However, I got a bonus at work and found I didn't need to then proceed to apply for the loan so I didn't then fill in an application/proceed. I kept getting email reminders to say my offer would expire, but ignored them as I had no intention of taking a loan.
Today I get an email from Lending Club - telling me my loan had be declined (nearly fell off my chair).
1 - They did a hard pull on my credit report late August (without my knowledge).
2 - Told me my credit score was 780 from Transunion (gee thanks I knew that).
3 - I have NO idea what amount of this loan was and I didn't apply for it!
4 - The reason for denial: Requested product not offered (I NEVER requested a product!)
How could a loan where I didn't then apply or authorize then proceed without my knowledge? By filing in their "check my rate without impact to credit score", did I inadvertenty, by ignoring their offer, give them authorisation to apply for a loan without my application and do a hard pull?
Obviously alarm bells are going off due to the credit agency breach that somebody else then applied (just seems strange the timing because I DID check a rate). I have sent them an email waiting for a response, but am scratching my head.
If they proceeded in error or due to fraud, can they reverse the hard pull from Transunion - can I dispute it?
I read the small print again on the "check my rate without any impact to credit score" and I can't see ANYTHING that says if I check the rate but ignore the offer, Lending Club themselves can fill out the applicaiton they can proceed regardless
I was doing so well with my credit building, this has totally thrown me.
Well, it's pretty much impossible to get a HP inquiry removed by dispute with the credit bureau. Your best option to get it removed is to complain to Lending Club, but good luck with that.
As for the reasons they declined your loan that you didn't apply for, creditors often make up nonsense reasons for declining. There was probably an option to decline the offer which would have ended the process, instead of just ignoring the emails warning of offer expiring.
Thanks.
I spoke to them after no response to the email. They are looking to resolve it, fingers crossed.
