Listed with original creditor and CA? How can this be?

I noticed that the Providian account is listed as an open account, but it is also listed as charged off, closed by creditor.  What? How can it be open and closed?  Well in looking further I also noticed that the Providian is also listed with a CA.  How can that happen?  The original Providian is set to fall off in 3-2008, but will check on the CA.  Even if I pay those should I have to pay twice?  I know that I only had one Providian account, not two.

No that's correct.   When an account gets charged off and sent to collections, the collection agency can report as well.  It's SOP.  Once the Original Creditor falls off your credit report the collection one has to as well, if not dispute it as too old to report.

Re: Listed with original creditor and CA? How can this be?

That's interesting boswd..I  just wrote to NCO Collections to try to get something removed.  It was initially a dispute with Sprintpcs which they had reported on my CR. It reported as paid, $0 balance but was still on my CR. I wrote Sprint several times, but they never ever answered. The entry for them disappeared from my CR and has now come up under NCO, $0 balance, paid..One report says Account Closed and another report says Paid - Account Open. So I have now sent them a certified goodwill letter asking for delete..But according to what you are saying, since the original creditor deleted, they must also delete?

That depends,  it can still stay on there if the 7 years hasn't expired.    Has it?    If so then the NCO has to come off as well, if not, It can still stay there even if Sprint couldn't confirm.   I'm not positive on this but since the debt was probably sold to NCO the negative can still remain but it's life has to depend on the original date of Sprint.
