Maintaining Credit Score After Divorce

I hope someone can give me some ideas on saving my credit scores.

Here is the background.  My husband was awarded our home in the divorce.  He was not on the deed nor was he on the mortgage.  The court ordered me to sign over the house via a quitclaim deed.  I did this.  The court ordered my ex to pay the mortgage.  He did not do so.

I sent the mortgage company a copy of the divorce decree and quitclaim deed.  I've also sent them the motion to the court to hold the ex in contempt for not following the court order.  Based on the history of the courts, we probably won't have a hearing for 3 - 6 months.

My credit scores are over 800.  What can I do to minimize the hit?

There is no way my ex will pay the mortgage.  He is trying to punish me for leaving him by wrecking my credit.

Thanks for the advice!

Re: Maintaining Credit Score After Divorce

I can speak about the home but you ned to put a fraud alert onyour CR's so that the ex cant take credit out in your name using all your info.  Also if he is on any of your CC accounts, get his name off or close the account if the CCC wont do that (last resort).

I live in Texas and when DW got divorced, the court awarded the home to her ex but he had to refi the mortgage to get her name off the title.

Texas is a community property state so must times the court forces the sale of the home.

I forgot to add welcome to the forum and sorry about your problems with the ex.  It is never easy.
