Hi everyone,
I'm new here - and did some searching but not sure I found what I'm looking for and needing.
I just found out I have 2 credit reports - under 2 different name variations.
All 3 credit reports list my current name incorrectly (and all differently) and have corrected that.
And deleted many 'past addresses' where I have never lived. (where do those come form?)
Anyway, I recently discovered I have 2 credit files with different names - one maiden name, one married name with a name change - guess that messed things up, but I was unaware of it until a creditor discovered it. Now to fix it! I've talked to the credit bureaus customer service (not one in English) and can't seem to get across what I need. Address is the same, of course social security # is the same, all info the same.
I believe one agent suggested I add an 'alias' or 'AKA' to my file - but they couldn't do it as their computers were down.
However, how can I merge these accounts?
And yes, I do have credit cards in the different names - never really thought to change them - I was never one to check my reports for any reason - so I thought.
So, the creditor (GE) put a fraud alert on my card - with 'under review for a month' - on a card I have had for 30 years!
Any advice before I contact the bureau's again?
Oh, forgot this - I was told by one credit bureau they are not interested in 'old names' just my current name. Great.
So, you folks who are rather very credit savvy have any help for me?
Thanks,
Betts
I would work with the creditors that are reporting your maiden name. Contacting the bureau(s) will not fix the problem. Why, as soon as the creditor using the maiden name reports your account again the problem returns. I would tell them after you were married you neglected to update your account with the married name. Also, offer to provide what ever proof they would need to make the update your account. When all the creditor(s).make the update you will have all your credit information in one credit file. I would only be concerned about any open accounts that are affected.
