Mysterious Consumer Statement??

This morning I checked my CCT report and this mysterious personal statement showed up on my EX:

General personal statements currently displaying on your personal credit report at your request appear below:

ID SECURITY ALERT: FRAUDULENT APPLICATIONS MAY BE SUBMITTED IN MY NAME OR MY IDENTITY MAY HAVE BEEN USED WITHOUT MY CONSENT TO FRAUDULENTLY OBTAIN GOODS OR SERVICES. DO NOT EXTEND CREDIT WITHOUT FIRST VERIFYING THE IDENTITY OF THE APPLICANT. I CAN BE REACHED AT XXX-XXX-XXXX. THIS SECURITY ALERT WILL BE MAINTAINED FOR 90 DAYS BEGINNING 12-01-09.

I am so confused. I have never requested this statement be added to my report..has this ever happened to anyone? The only thing I have done in the last 2 weeks in regards to EX is send a HIPAA letter and a dispute regarding addresses.

Is this easy to remove?

It also gets crazier..just went to check True Credit daily TU report change and got the following:

 What happened:

At your request, we're taking some extra security precautions to better protect your personal information.

Re: Mysterious Consumer Statement??

This is a 90 day fraud alert. I know because my identity was stolen and I have the same exact message on my credit bureau report. This is put on your credit file when someone has used your information without your consent. You can have it removed by writing the credit bureau, providing a copy of your driver's license and a recent utility bill. As for how it got on there without you knowing...beats me.

Hope this helps.

Certain types of disputes automatically trigger these alerts.  If you dispute an inquiry they usually put a fraud alert on your CR, but perhaps they also do it if you dispute an address that a current creditor reports as valid.

Re: Mysterious Consumer Statement??

It's probably from the dispute, but just in case, is the displayed phone number yours? Does the other info match?

Re: Mysterious Consumer Statement??

I finally got through to TU and they said it was put on there by them because of a dispute I sent in on 11/27.  Unfortunately it was a HIPAA letter so I'm hoping that doesnt keep them from deleting Smiley Sad
