Re: NASA federal credit union

I appd for a CC of theirs but was denied due to my Chexsystems report. But they have cool looking CCs and hear that they are generous with their TLs.

I don't know if this works now or not, but I joined via National Space Society.

You may want to go on their website to see what their membership requirements are. When I tried over a year ago, NSS was the cheapest non-profit I could join to gain membership into NASA. I don't know if it is the same for today or not. There may be other ways of joining now.

In fact, here's a list of associations you can join:

http://www.nasafcu.com/l2.aspx?ci=866

NSS is still there. Good to know. If you aren't an employee of several facilities like Wallops, KSC, etc., or an employee of an employer listed in their list or employers, then you can join a non-profit and then join NASA. You'd have to open a Share account and fund that. From there you can app for checking, savings, CC, car, etc.

Re: NASA federal credit union

Ok, I am at work and did some minimal research

You have to be a member of an approved association SUCH AS national space society to join the credit union

What are the benefits of a credit union?

I have raised my FICOS from 500 to around 600 in the past few months using first premier and crown jewelers….So I know they would not approve me for a card (baddies, 2 chargeoffs and 5 collections) but if I get in and open account they may trust me in the future?

Thanks

Re: NASA federal credit union

Benefits tend to be more flexible in lending including higher CLs on new CCs. The lending standards are more relaxed than big banks. And don't discount your scores. I've seen some lower scores get approved at places like NASA.

My knowledge on opening accts with CUs is limited. However, I do have a Penfed account. They required me to open a share account by which to springboard into their other services. A share account is basically a saving account whereby you own a percentage of that CU. Each month, for example, Penfed pays me a small bit (less than $1) to keep money in there. Once my new accounts clear and scores go higher, then I'll app for a Visa and maybe a checking acct. I would also be able to transfer money between accts if I wanted to.

When I applied at NASA, they also asked me to open a share account and deposit money. I figure it was the same process as Penfed.

Re: NASA federal credit union

Ok thanks

So I am going to do this

I am going to become a memeber of the national space society....by doing this and joining NASAs bank hopefully that will implement some trust between us

Hopefully after a checking account with them for a few months will help me down the line when I apply for a credit card with them...I would wait a few months to buid some trust before I applied for a NASA card

Re: NASA federal credit union

i joined the national space society last year to join NASA, however i never applied cuz the feedback on this board was that they pulled from ALL THREE CRA's a hard pull to open a TL.

i thought  3 hard INQ's was not worth it........is this still the case?
