NFCU Nightmare CLOC

I don't know if my situation is unique or not but I've read a decent amount of bad reviews regarding NFCU. I have only been with the bank 2 months, got approved for a CLOC of what I asked for, 7K. It all started about 2 weeks after opening the account. Tried t use my CLOC and card was declinded, called bank later that day and was told my account was compromised. I almost didn't believe it, I have 3 different banks and sign into all of them from the same devices, but somehow, an unknown person was able to log into my NFCU account on the first try? My password is over 10 characters, random capital letters, numbers, etc.. Brute force attack would not have worked on a website as my account would have been locked after a few attemps, felt it was odd someone knew exactly what that password was, and none of my other bank accounts were compromised.

Call up, they close my accounts and reopen new ones, was told my CLOC automatically carries over. That was rather a lie or was said on purpose. Tried to use CLOC, no luck, called and was told I need to call back tomorrow as their back office was closed, but they submitted a request to transfer it.

Had to call back 4 days in a row before a supervisor reopened the CLOC under my new accounts. Used it a few times since, than low and behold I get a decline again. Called up and person in CLOC dept said my account was frozen and saw no explanation as to why, put me on hold, made some phone calls and nobody knows anything. I tell the employee, how is it possible my account was frozen, I was never notified and nobody at the bank seems to know why? She had no answer. I asked flat out was this done on purpose? What if this was my normal bank with my direct deposit, do you expect me to believe you won't freeze that account without explanation and leave me high and dry of my own money? Again, the rep had no reply for that, none of this makes any sense. I have never dealt with any bank that frozen an account let alone without any ryhme or reason, explanation.

So she needs to "submit a request" to unblock it.

Has anyone had this issue with NFCU?

I have used Cap 1 and PenFed and had more issues with NFCU in 2 months that I have had with any bank combined in my lifetime. I will certainly not be moving my DD from my job over to this establishment, they have shown me they can't be trusted or just incompetent, or both...

So tell me, I have read a decent amount of bad reviews, I do think not all of them can be true, but now Im wondering...Is this a common occurence with this bank?

I haven't read any bad reviews on them. Nothing but praise. And my own (very limited) personal experience dealing with them has been good. Although I have a branch nearby I've used.

But very sorry to read of your difficulties. Sure sounds like they're spooked. Good luck.

Other than consumer affairs, the lowest average rating on the first page is 3.5 out of 5 stars on credit karma. Every other score is between 4-4.8 stars out of 5. Consumer affairs is a place for people to complain about bad business and service, so their ratings are skewed.  I take bad reviews with a grain of salt. People who feel that they've been wronged are 10 times more likely to do a review and tend to try and justify how they feel, even exaggerating a little. On the other hand, people rarely leave good reviews unless they've been so impressed they want to tell the world about it. The fact that they have so many high scores is impressive, especially since they are the largest credit union. I've literally never seen a bank with that many reviews and that high of scores.

As for your situation, nothing is perfect. Somebody, somewhere, is going to have problems at some time whether it's for goods or services. Unfortunately, it appears you're that person right now. You can try reaching out to the executives or board of directors if you feel your issue isn't being resolved fast or well enough.

Re: NFCU Nightmare CLOC

Having your accounts frozen is nothing new for NFCU they have done this to a lot of people, this is a known thing.  However I think the majority of the people never have their accounts frozen and are very happy with them.

I'm happy with them bc I haven't had any problems, but I never trust them.

Re: NFCU Nightmare CLOC

They did unfreeze my CLOC today but their only explanation was it was done in error. I dunno what to believe from them. I really want to start using rather NFCU or PENFED for my payroll check, thing is, NFCU gave me money up front, PenFed did not which is a head scratcher, their explanation for denying a CC or personal loan was past or previous deliquent account, my exquifax has no negative acccounts, sowhen Penfed denied me I was shocked. So NFCU has been more generous with me, however, I dunno how much to trust them?

Re: NFCU Nightmare CLOC

I think with any Bank/CU that's skittish or randomly closes/freezes accounts you can just use their credit products.  Don't keep your paycheck in there, in case you lose access to it for an undetermined amount of time.
