My name was changed on my TransUnion report and it is now incorrect. I do not have any accounts using the name that TU is currently reporting. They are also stating that they cannot update the information without me mailing them a copy of my social security card. Does this sound strange?
I also do not agree with the fact that I have to provide verifications to identify myself, but a creditor or potential creditor can submit anything to TU and they will update?!!? I do not agree with this at all.
Somehow somebody reported the incorrect name against your SSN (a reporting creditor) and for some reason they updated your reported name instead of adding it to "Alias" or Other names.
For name issues, you will need to mail a hard copy letter in and present a copy of your DL, SSN (and I recommend your birth certificate) so that there can be no questions. I had this same issue, but it was worst on Equifax. I got it corrected, then it changed back a couple months to incorrect. Finally, I got all three reporting correctly, but it took several letters and sending copies of DL, SSN and Birth Certificate to get it to stick.
I also, at the same time, got them to delete erroneous variations of my name (ALIASES) listed on my report, as well as "other social security numbers" listed (had my wife and son reported under this).
Look over "other addresses" also. If you see one that was never yours, maybe it belongs or belonged to a family member or somebody you don't know....this can be a clue to the name variations or possibly erroneous account info due to mistaken identity (which I had to deal with from my father who has a similar name).
