I thought my student loans were in deferment and turns out they were not.Navient called me last week and said my loans were past due and gave me the option of a forbearance which I took.
They updated and reported my loans and 90days past due and it dropped my score by 117 points on transunion and experian.
I asked why and they said we've called many times and sent letters. Going through very difficult life circumstances and didn't receive mail or calls as a result. They explained I can dispute and ask for retraction because of the circumstances but often times they will not correct information that was reported correctly.
Any feedback on improving my score from this catastrophe is appreciated. Are there ways to build back the lost 117 points quickly? Over the course of 6-9 months?
That is a big drop. Write to them via registered/return receipt. Ask for copies of all letters that they claim were sent to you. Request a sworn affidavit for each letter. Also request phone logs for each call.
Thank you for the feedback. I will do that.
Personally, I would be beg and plead and cry with them before any legal or threat talking.
Good luck!
