Need Help with German Company

Hi everyone, here is my story. I signed up to this one website for a free trial. A German company located in Germany. On the last day of trial I sent request to cancel the trial, but I guess because of the time difference, I was too late and they charged me a fee for the whole year. The fee was charged through PayPal account.

I tried emailing the company that I canceled the trial but they still said I was too late and they would not give me my money back. So I decided to dispute the charge with my credit company. After 45 days, their investigation was concluded and they gave me my money back. The next day I get an email from the company saying I have to pay for the year per the contract I agreed to. I guess the credit company took the money back. I ignored the email, a week or two later I get a letter from them in the mail (they sent it to my parents house as I did not update the address in my PayPal account) stating I need to pay. I ignored the letter and after a month. I get a letter in mail from collections company in Germany saying on behave of the other company they are writing me to collect the money I owe. Now a little more with all the extra fees.

Can this hurt me coming from a company in Germany? Can that go on my credit history as do not know who I am really. All they have is my name and old address. How should I handle this? When the credit card company did theit investigation, shouldn't he they have responded to the CC company?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

How much money are you talking about? Do you a have a print out of the agreement? The ageement should have info about cancelling ie time place so forth. My responce to them would be  I cancelled within the time frame and dispute the debt.  What you want is put them in US debt collection laws where they probably have very limited experience and you can possibly rack about some FDCA violations.

We are talking about 180 dollars. I do not have the agreement as I did not really care the subscription to the site. I looked at it once time and never logged back in. I just want to make sure if the collection agency could somehow cross over to US and report me or not. I may only be in Germany in passing someday so I don't really care. I just don't want that to do anything to my credit score and history here in US.

I would file dispute with colection firm via mail and track it.  2) I rather doubt they report to US credit but that's just a I am not sure 3) I base that on them not responding to credit card co.
