Need advice...

I received a letter from a collection agency about a $25 fee that I forgot to pay since 2005 (not much, but they always get you...). I already paid it, however after reading the forums - I am worried this will go on my credit report (even if its within the 30 day notice) and I shouldn't have paid it. Do I do a pay to delete letter, or can I just call them to confirm that it will be removed? Please help and thank you!

IMHO- If it is not on you CR now- it shouldn't show up later if PIF. Be sure to keep all you documentation.

You should check your reports to see if it is there.

Re: Need advice...

I called them up and since it was under 30 days, it will not be reported to any CA Smiley Happy I am still going to bug them for a letter however just to be 100% sure.

Re: Need advice...

Good job...it's ALWAYS better to settle a debt BEFORE it shows up as a collection. I was in a similar situation earlier this month with a child support arrears of $600. It hurt to have to squeeze out that much money, but had it been reported, it would have dropped my FICO a good 30 to 40 points, which would have taken me several months to a year to recover from.

Any time you can give a baddie an abortion before it comes to term, do it.
