Noooooo! Voluntary decrease lowered score A LOT!

Noooo!!!!

I wanted the United MileagePlus Explorer card to go along with my (very new) CSP.  I was offered 50k miles for 2k spend in 3 months and decided to go for it.  I got the 7-10 day notice and called to recon.  Was told that Chase had extended me as much credit as they were going to (38k, between CSP and Freedom) and that I could have the United card but would have to reallocate the limit from one of the other cards.  I though, what could go wrong?  And allocated 13k to the new United card from the 33k limit CSP.

Just informally checked my score today on CreditKarma and it has gone down 16 POINTS!!!!  Had no idea that was a possibility from a voluntary credit limit decrease.

Tell me -- is this hit to my score going to be temporary or permanent??  I'm headed back to the garden now!!!!!

Re: Noooooo! Voluntary decrease lowered score A LOT!

The score decrease isn't from the limit decease it's more than likely for the hit to your aaoa from adding a new account. Unless the limit decrease affected your utilization that is

Also credit karma isn't a real credit score and only takes into account open trade lines for aaoa so your real FICO may hay been impacted less (or it is possible even more)

Maybe it's the AAOA hit and inquiry? I woudn't trust CK scores very much, for example, my util went from 8 to 2% and my CK score went down a lot to like 630 when my actual FICO is currently 735!Smiley Indifferent

Credit Karma is no bueno.  They are a full 100 points lower than my FICO.  You may not even experience much of a hit.

Re: Noooooo! Voluntary decrease lowered score A LOT!

Did you see a 16 point drop in your Ficos?  If not I wouldn't stress with CK.  Their system is wacky sometimes.  A couple of weeks ago, it said I lost 10 points when nothing changed on my reports.  The following week, I went back for an updated version and it said my score went up 20 points lol..

This has happen a few times so I wouldn't worry if the decrease is just your CK scores.

I agree with this. I have seen my CK scores plummet 45 pts over the last 3 months, while the scores MyFIco is showing me have been stable, +/- 1 or 2 points. I don't understand CK. My wife's CK scores pretty much mirror the score on her Discover statements and her Walmart Fico..

Re: Noooooo! Voluntary decrease lowered score A LOT!

Use CK for credit reporting and AAoA. Best for that IMO.

AC/DC bells...mine jumps 66 pts.  FICO is higher then CK. Also bipolar on offering new credit cards. One day they're pushing Chase Freedom next day Secured Cap1.

Go enjoy that sweet Airline combo.

You get what you pay for with ck. Nothing. I freaked it was I have 8 reported late payments this morning. I've not been late on a ill in over 10 years Smiley Happy now it's says 100% payment history. It's advantage score not fico. Re allocation hasn't affect

Re: Noooooo! Voluntary decrease lowered score A LOT!

I would tend to think that the point drop has 2 factors.

1. you got a new card and your AAOA decreased. That just happens.

2. I would ask if your new card is showing reported yet? I was wondering if the lower limit on your already reporting card increased your utilization but your new card is not showing yet since you havent gotten a statement?

Just a thought. I am probably off though.
