Not Sure what to think or do

Hi Everyone, Here is the deal...I disputed two items on my Credit Bureau with EQ: 1) The way Midland Collections was reporting. They were showing me 120 past due with a zero balance. I requested they show Paid in Full. It did not change and my score dropped six points. 2) I disputed the way an account was reporting 30 days pays due Benchmark Furniture - payment was posted to the wrong account and was supposed to be fixed. Well, EQ put a dispute in on the wrong account...they showed it on my Dillard's account - so that is unresolved. I want my Midland Credit account to show "Paid in Full" and for some reason that is not being accomplished. Also, I want the mix up that EQ did fixed, but I am afraid to dispute as my score may go down again. Here is the next one that is really strange: I sent a PDF letter to a collection agency (CPA) and they said they are no longer servicing the account so I went to Time Warner and asked for PDF and they declined to work with me. I pulled my CB yesterday and the collection account is now gone. The SOL is in October. Any suggestions on this? Also, when the collection went off my report my score went from 628 to 640. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give.

Re: Not Sure what to think or do

1) No expert, but with a $0 balance - I believe Paid in full is implied.  My accounts were settled for less and have the notation "Paid Setllement for Less than Full amount" or something along those lines.  Doesn't seem to affect my score adversely.

2)  It sounds like you will have to file another dispute since it was applied to wrong account.  I too noticed that EQ hits a 6pt or so penalty on the fico score for disputing.  However, it only seems to last a couple of weeks.

Regards.

I am no authority, sl, but from my  own, recent, experience with such things, you have to dispute this with the original creditor.  Only the original creditor (per Equifax and Experian) can change the status of an account, on your credit reports.  Disputing this with the CRAS, most usually, accomplishes nothing more than a verification of the information the OC is providing them.

2.  I disputed the way an account was reporting 30 days pays due Benchmark Furniture - payment was posted to the wrong account and was supposed to be fixed. Well, EQ put a dispute in on the wrong account...they showed it on my Dillard's account - so that is unresolved.

Dispute this with the reporting CRA.  If  an online dispute doesn't correct this, proceed with a phone call, and if that doesn't work, write them a letter and include a copy of the page that shows the mix-up, then send it to them certified mail.  Keep copies of everything you send.  Also, never be afraid to dispute!  I must have disputed a hundred times and never noticed my score drop because of it.  When my score dropped following a dispute, it was usually because the information was updated and worked against me.

3.  I sent a PDF letter to a collection agency (CPA) and they said they are no longer servicing the account so I went to Time Warner and asked for PDF and they declined to work with me. I pulled my CB yesterday and the collection account is now gone.

What reason did Time Warner give you for refusing to work with you?  Did they tell you that they no longer hold the account?  Did they tell you that it was assigned to someone else, such as the CPA?  It could be that the CPA deleted the file, and that's why you were told they are no longer servicing the account; but then too, they may have passed the debt on to another CA who simply hasn't reported it as yet.

Again, I am no authority, and I most certainly hope some far more knowledgable than I will respond to this.  In the meantime, hang in there, you'll eventually get this all cleared up.  Just don't give up and take nothing for granted!

Re: Not Sure what to think or do

Question #1 - Southwestern Bell was the original creditor and I was turned over to Midland Credit. Do I contact SWB or Midland Credit. Question #2 - I pulled the report on equifax through myfico.com. How do you dispute online via myfico.com scorwatch? Questons #3 - CPA was the CA and they told me they are not servicing my account and told me to call Time Warner. I called the retention office and they said I owe the money and I can pay them but they refused to do a paid and delete and next thing I know the colloection if off my record. Funny thing about the above. I did not get a score watch alert on the above.

Re: Not Sure what to think or do

You may have to do both Southwestern and Midland.  My WAMU was turned over to a collection agency, so I have two hits on the credit.  the WAMU and a collections.

I disputed the equifax using their website, and bought a report from them in order to get a confirmation number to use for the disbute.

Very cool that the collection is off the record.  I had similar good fortune when a foreclosure disappeared from my reports.

Have a great day.
