Not renewing the same as closing?

I have a Sam's club card and have had it for a few years now.  I never been late and alway's paid it in full.  I had a $500 credit limit and got a letter stating they pulled my equfiax report and decided to lower my limit to $100.  My score is close to 600 and it is now time to renew.  I'm not sure with such a drop and paying 40 bucks to renew if it is actually worth keeping.  I only use it for the gas since it is the cheapest place but is it worth it?  Is it the same as closing and will my score suffer?

I think the $40 renews the Sam's club membership, not just the card. A job I had years ago keeps renewing mine Smiley Happy But it's not a credit card, just a membership card.
