Not reporting? need help

So long and short of it is..... Transunion and Experian are large files, many accounts, mostly all aged pretty well (836 TU and 818 EX) but Equifax has about 10% of the accounts listed, now these ARE creditors who report to Equifax, we have called the card companies themselves and they claim they are updating to EQ every month and I tend to believe them since it's a bunch of DIFFERENT banks, so the problem clearly resides with Equifax.

we have called Equifax and asked about split files etc they assure me that is NOT the case, what do we do???

please help

Thanks

Re: Not reporting? need help

I had this issue with 2 accounts missing from EQ. I ended up getting written statements from each creditor claiming they have been reporting the accounts for x amount of months, then filing a CFPB complaint against EQ. My complaint listed the account names / types / partial account numbers and I attached copies of the creditors' statements to it. It took about 3 weeks, but the issue was finally resolved.

Re: Not reporting? need help

If you have ten times the number of accounts at EX and TU as you do at EQ, and if you have done the legwork with the creditors of all the missing accounts (who have verified that their accounts are all reporting to EQ) then there's no question that the problem is a split file.

Do you have a paper copy or electronic PDF of a much older EQ report in which the accounts do appear?  This would be one more proof that at some point a split must have occured in which most of your accounts were lost.

My advice is to accept that this may take a while to resolve and may take a fair amount of work on your part.  That bites but it is likely the reality, so via the Serenity Prayer start by accepting that.

The key steps if I were you is documentation.  First do your best to create a list of the dates and times you spoke with an Equifax rep.  Indicate briefly and neutrally in your notes what was discussed and what the EQ rep said.

Second, print out your three reports.  Make a list of the accounts that do not appear on EQ but do appear on TU and EX, and which you are almost sure should be on the EQ report.

Then for each of the missing creditors, call them and do the following:

* Document the date and time of the call with the creditor

* Ask to speak with the department that handles questions about reporting to the three credit bureaus.

* Ask if you could verify the exact spelling of the first name, last name, and street address they are using when they report to the three bureaus.  Also confirm that the SSN and DOB are correct.

* Ask if they are certain that they are reporting to EQ.  Ask if they can can confirm that it has been every month for at least the last six months.

* Ask if they could send you something in writing documenting that this is so.

Do all that for each missing creditor.

Assemble all your documentation into one folder.  The documentation should include a table of contents that indicates what each piece of paper is, and should include recent copies of all three credit reports.  Make two photocopies of everything so that you have three identical folders.

Contact EQ one last time and walk them through it, and ask them if it would help if you mailed them the folder.  If they say yes, do that and include a cover letter with the date and time of your last talk with them.  And direct their attention to the almost certain explanation of a split file.

If EQ still fails to fix this after all that, file a complaint with the CFPB, and be prepared to send them the same folder.
