Ok, So I am out looking for a new car loan and I am getting denied right and left. The people at Honda said they couldn't understand why my score was so low. All my car payments were on time. Come to find out I have a credit card reporting as closed but it isnt. What can I do about this? Is it possible to get the updated credit score sent to the people that pulled my credit and denied it at?
I have all these credit pulls now and possibly could have been approved muc earlier in the hunt for a new car. The reason why the score is even an issue is because I am looking for a second vehicle for my company.
What is your current score? Usually a car dealer can get you a loan with almost any score. The interest rate may be high, but car dealers have banks the write loans to people with less then great credit scores.
Is this your only credit card? Call the bank and see what's going on.
Do you have any other loans out mortgage, student loans, medical bills, etc?
I would pull a free credit report and review it carefully. It sounds like there is something else on your report that is really huritng you. One baddie typically will not prevent you from getting a car loan. Car loans are one of the easier loans to get approved for (although sometimes with a high interest rate) because they have equity with a reposession if you stop making payments altogether.
If you have a credit card reporting as closed that isn't, if there's a balance on the card that means your card is at 100% utilization which can hurt your score. If it's your only credit card, that would mean your aggregate utilization is also at 100% which would completely tank your score. Is this your only credit card? What institution is it through? What is your balance/limit on it?
Are you sure the card didn't get closed on you? If it's reported incorrectly, the first thing to do is get on the phone with your creditor and tell them what's going on. Let them know that they card is incorrectly reported as closed and because of that your credit scores are trashed and you can't get a loan. Insist that they re-report the card immediately as open. Once they verify that the account has been reported correctly, if I were you I'd verify that myself by doing a $1 CCT trial or something. At that point you can go back to the dealer and have them rerun your credit. Keep in mind that all inquiries received from a dealership within a 30 day period are viewed/scored as 1 inquiry, so them running your credit a bunch of times isn't a bad thing and is expected as people rate shop all the time. I would get on the phone with the creditor right away though and square this issue away, then you can move forward with the loan you need.
