Question: Is there ANY way of obtaining an old credit report?
I know that the rule of thumb is to keep copies for yourself, but I just don't have anything older than 5 years. I need a report from 5 years ago to validate some fraudluent activity that was supposed to go away.
Basically, an account that was supposedly opened in 2000 did not show up on my credit report until 2004, AFTER it went deliquent. Obviously it was not mine and I was able to dispute with the company and bureau's, but not TU. So, if I could get a copy of the old credit report I can show that an account that was supposedly open in 2000 would have at least had to be open in 2000-2004 with payment information, the absence of which would prove that the account was not mine or probable violation of the FDCRA (although I think this might be a stretch, as the rule says a company reporting must report accurately, not that all companies must report). However, being that this was a bank loan (and not utility, etc) then it obviously WOULD have been reporting.
