Old Garnishment

My wife has an old garnishment  ( over 10 years old) that they are taking out of her check, but it is not showing up on her credit reports.  We are just bout to get it paid off.  When that happens, will it show up?

If so, what can I do to make it disappear?

Is there a link for step by step instructions on how to dispute an item that the original creditor has no record of?  Also need to know how to write a GW and  a PFD letter.

When it's paid, it's paid.  It will not show on your CR.  Congrats on getting that monkey off your back!

Re: Old Garnishment

As for diputing an item based on the conclusion that the furnisher has no record of the item, the first issue is whether you have a legitimate basis for a dispute, period.

The consumer has the initial burden, in any dispute, to raise a specific issue of inaccurate reporting, and provide sufficient documentation so as to enable the asserted inaccuracy to be investigated.  Without such a baisis, a dispute is not proper.

The supposition that the creditor may not have records goes to their ability to verify, and would not, in my opinion, be the basis for showing of a specific inaccuracy in the reported information necessary to intitate a proper dispute.

While one could choose to dispute without showing of an actual inaccuracy in reporting under the hope that it wont be dismissed as frivolous or irrelevant, and thus hoping that it will ultimately be deleted due to lack of verification, it is against the terms of servie of this site to recommend an unsupported dispute.

Your decision.

Re: Old Garnishment

OK RobertEG,, was trying to figure out the dispute part of your answer.  When I typed my reply, that was not included in the OP and was edited in later.  I had initially thought you had commented on the wrong post.

In reply to the post.  What would be the basis for a dispute?
