Re: Old debt being reported as current after dispute--HELP

Thanks for shedding some light here.  I fully understand how and why it's still being reported.  I guess what threw me off is that it's the same account and same status, and it caused my score to decrease.  I can see if there was some activity on the account--like I paid it off, or it was officially charged off, etc.  So what you're saying is that when an account is delinquent, the creditor can update every couple of months, with a "missed payment" (even after it was closed) and it will ding your score every time?

For instance, my score was 646 with this derog, then they updated the payment status to missd payement up to 3/2018, and it caused my score to drop to 640.

So what your saying is that a creditor can just resend an update every month and continue to compound the negative effects?

I apologize in advance if this is annoying, but I'm really trying to understand this.

Kree--it's showing on the website (experian) as "missed payment" on 3/17 adnd 3/18--nothing else (compared to last month it was randomly reporting missed at 9/15)

On the app, it's showing these same dates but has a "charged-off" next to it.

It's essentially the same as a delinquent debt updating from 30-late to 60-late to 90-late, etc.

It remains delinquent, and its period since initial delinquency becomes longer as it remains unpaid.

The extended time from initial delinquency affects scoring, but does not affect the credit report exclusion of the reported delinquencies.

All monthly delinquencies will become excluded no later than 7 years from the date of first delinquency in the string of delinquency, and the reported charge-off becomes excluded no later than 7 years plus 180 days from that DOFD.
