Overpaid a balance transfer

Hi-

I recently performed a balance transfer between two cards that hasn't hit the other bank yet.  I later realized I paid down the total there to less than the incoming balance transfer amount.

Will the transfer go thru? Will I have a negative credit at the original bank? Something else?

Thanks

Every bank is different but usually it will make your card negative balance. Most banks won't let a negative balance sit for more than a cycle or two, and some will even mail you a check for the difference. If it sits too long, they don't like it.

I've done that before also by like $40. All I did was go use that card for like $50 and then made manual payment for exact difference from BT, bingo $0 Balance.

Agreed @TryItAgain

The BT will go through and you'll have a credit.  Rather than waiting for a refund, treat yourself to a purchase

^^^^^ This

Some will mail you the extra $ by check day 1 (automaticaly).

Most will post the negative balance.

* If you get a negative balance you have a few options.*

Use card and spend the extra.

Call and request balance be sent via check.

If a CU / bank where you have savings or checking, most will also allow transfer to one of your accounts.

Do nothing and in 60-90 days with a "static" neg balance, they will refund the extra.

If you use the cards just a little, changing the neg balance number will delay you being refunded automaticly.  One can have a negative balance every month if the numbers are not the same every month.

Yes it will go through.

Yes you'll have credit balance at the other end.
