PFD Denial, next course of action?

I received a response from 1st Financial Bank SD on a charge-off account for $1395 that I tried to PFD. It charged off in March 2001.  The response was that they could not do a PFD because they had to accurately report the account as stands.  They did however give me a number to call and said I had several options to choose from to settle this debt.   I knew going into this that it would be deleted from my credit report approximately around 3/2008, but it is still hurting the amount of my revolving credit because it is still being listed as unpaid. Should I send another letter? Let it stand until March? It is still with the original creditor and I don't want to be sued for something I can pay. Any suggestions?

Do not speak to anyone on the phone, keep everything to writing.

What did you offer for PFD, how much of a settlement, or was it for PIF?

VL........Never, ever.............eeeeeeeever, talk to a CA on the phone. The 1st Financial thing disappears in 5 months. I doubt it is hurting you very much now, anyway.

I'd do nothing and let time take care of this one.

I offered PIF. I don't mind waiting. I was just worried I may have awakened the beast.

If 3/08 is when it's supposed to drop off, it sounds like it should be beyond the SOL for legal action, so no worries (what state are you in)?
