I called TU myself and they said on their end, it doesn't show as a new account. So I'm not sure why EX would say it was. Oh well, as long as things are good with TU, I'm happy!

Was CMRE reporting to Trans Union prior to your payment? Secondly Is the date open on CMRE trade line in either 09/2018 or 10/2018? If so it is a new account.
Find out the maximum amount you can sue without an attorney in small claims court. Go to your local courthouse and get the form. Make a copy of it. Fill out the copy. Mail it to the "creditor" certified/return receipt requesting the name of its local agent and state you are filing a lawsuit. Then do it. Creditors sue people all the time. You are in your legal rights.

Yes, CMRE was reporting to TU and EX only. After looking at Credit Karma's account page, it shows the opened date as June 11, 2014, account status: closed, and paid collection. I called TU yesterday for something unrelated to this, and she asked if I wanted a free copy of my report, so I said yes and should receive it next week. I'm pretty sure EX was wrong about the "new" account because TU said it wasn't showing that on their end. I'll be able to confirm once I receive my actual report from TU themselves.

If the account really is reporting as "new" then I will definitely go this route. I think EX may have just been wrong about it. Every site I check that shows my TU report shows the opened date as June 11, 2014. The DoFD, however, was Sept. 2012.

The date of first delinquency is referring back to when account first went delinquent with the original creditor. So the June 2014 date the account was either assigned to or sold to the collection agency. This is not a new account based on what you provided.
