Was checking my balances today and noticed that my main account page showed a new "Make Payment" button under the PCR which takes you to this page now:
Frequency drop down has "Monthly AutoPay" and "One Time" as the options, then Option shows minimum, current balance, and "Pay Other Amount" which actually lets you overpay now:
On the card transactions page, it also changed the language a bit and says to visit your card page to make payments (which I would think the transaction page is but oh well).
Looks like they're really trying to move everything to a more modern design language.
@ccquest I spoke with a Supervisor a couple of months ago regarding opening up my checking account from "jail"...it's a long story. The skinny is I had my EQ/SS frozen and opened up a savings account with them. They couldn't successfully HP my credit report and put my account in some PenFed jail for six months+. No ACH, etc.
I digress; the super stated PenFed would be going through a UI change within the next year to assist its customers better. I was happy to hear that and see it's coming faster than anticipated.
Now, if NFCU could allow autopayments from an external financial institution...
Thanks for sharing @ccquest
I hadn't seen that yet and nice to know the improvements mentioned earlier are rolling out. More importantly....at least what I am happy to see...is that my payment can now exceed my reported balance!! There are often times when I use cards and then pay them off that day or the next and before this, had to wait for them to post a transacation before I could make a payment that exceeded my balance. Really appreciate the heads up...Thanks!
I have had Penfed card for over two years, and have made payments every month using an outside/ non- Penfed account every month. I don;t like to send checks via snail mail, and don;t want to pay from a PenFed account which I do not keep a lot of funds in.
Though the accounts were saved on their system, it would not let me use them for payment........ this month ( January ) for the very first time..... I called in and was told that they made a system change over the weekend..... and were following a new Fed requirement to "register" or re-register your accounts, which they wanted to make small deposits / transfers to for 3 days. Has anyone heard of this ? I opted not to do this at this time, since I have not heard of this and it has not been requested by any of my other accounts. Has anyone heard of this ?
The rep was very nice, said she has been swamped with calls for two days, and was able to make the transfer/ payment over the phone without charging the $5 fee for representative assistance.
I am shocked that they made this change not allowing consumers to pay on-line the way they have been for years without sending out an email notification in advance. I had weeks before a payment was due, but what if someone waited a few days before and then ran into this issue?

Yes, I have done it with Schwab and PenFed. NFCU didn't require it when I banked with them.

Regarding the trial deposits, those are legitimate. It is how you link banks in order to transfer funds with most financial institutions. They make 2 small deposits (<$1) into your other bank account then pull the funds back. You then go into their site and enter the exact amount of each deposit. Now you can send and pull money to/from that account.
Now that I think of it, I believe Discover may have done that when a new card was first opened..... but I have never had this occur, after making payments using the same accounts for over two years....... I was not adding a new account.... but using accounts that were already on their system for a lengthy period of time, making payments without one rejection. Is that typical?

Thanks fort the heads up! Set up to verify the same account they've been taking money from for the last year...

I wonder if the reason I didn't need to do it is because I have a newer account? Opened with them in late June. Looks like ChargedUp has the same experience as you with needing to reverify.
