Portfolio Recovery Associates in Norfolk, Virginia

Has anyone heard of this group?  What are they?  I received a call from them yesterday on my cell phone (which also serves as my home phone).  I rarely give out that number, except to friends and family.  The last two times I gave it out was to the college where I'm finishing my bachelors degree and, more recently, to creditreport.com, where I obtained copies of my credit report.  Oddly, I cancelled their service yesterday - I had to pay to get my scores and get more than one report, so wasn't entirely happy with them - thought their pitch was a little on the dishonest side.  Anyway, the call from PRA came within an hour of my cancelling the creditreport.com service.  Coincidence?  Do CAs and the various groups that give away/sell credit reports have some kind of deal to help each other out?  Maybe that's just crazy talk!  In any case, I didn't - and won't - return their call.  I don't talk to credit collectors over the phone; that's been my personal policy for years now.  There is a write-up about this group at ripoffreport.com.

They more than likely got it from the website or if you have applied for credit for ANYTHING, they will get it as well.  Just let them know that it is your personal cell phone and if they continue to contact you on that number you will reverse the charges for minutes to their company.
