Possible issue with Cap 1 reporting

Hi, long time visitor and first time poster. I'm unsure of how to proceed. I hope I'm doing this right...

Back in 2017 I missed payments on my cap1 account. It was eventually charged off in DeC' 17. In Jan'21 I sent my first gw request. I received a call and was told that nothing could be done. However shortly after that I received notifications that there had been a change. Instead of removing it they updated it to no longer reflect a CO, but now every month from Dec'17- Dec'20 was showing as 180 days and then as of Jan 28, 2021 it shows a new date reported and delinquency first reported as Jan 1, 2021. This caused my scores to plummet across all 3. To make it even more confusing... I paid the debt in Nov'2020.  So should I send another letter to Cap 1 explaining their error or do I contact the 3 CBs and ask to have them remove it since it's reporting in error.

Re: Possible issue with Cap 1 reporting

Once they update the balance to zip then per CRA rules updating the TL stops. There is no DoFD if they dont report a CO on the account, it would then stay onfile for longer than is legal. I would send them a copy of your previous CRs indicating the date that they actually COed it and request that it be updated properly. If they fail to do so then a CFPB complaint would be in order.
