Potential Fraud Purchase?

I noticed a pending charge appear on my credit card today, and I definitely did not use it. The kicker is, it is from a venue that I was at way back in January. For the life of me, I can't remember if I paid with a credit card or cash, but it was at a milkshake stand. The $12 pending charge sort of makes sense (they were $4 each) if I would have used my card, but I have no idea if I gave my card or not. My wife thinks we paid cash.

Anyway, since the charge is showing pending, I can't see all the information (such as online purchase, etc.) Should I wait for it to complete before calling BoA, or call in while it is pending? If I call them tomorrow while it is pending, will they be able to pull more information about the purchase? I'm wondering if they would be able to see a transaction date that started back in January. If it is a new charge, and no evidence shows it is from January, do you believe I'd be successful disputing this charge?

I would call. I don't even think they can legally charge you, some 7 months later.

Thanks for your input. I'll definitely call while it is pending, then.

It may be a fraudulent new charge, rather than one from January. Your card may have been 'skimmed'. If I were you I would attempt to dispute immediately.

Re: Potential Fraud Purchase?

Typically, you need to wait until it posts before you can dispute. But cap1 let me do it while pending so it doesn't hurt to call.

Re: Potential Fraud Purchase?

I called while it was pending, and they (BoA) couldn't tell me anything more than what I could see and recommended I call back again after it posts. I called back after it posted, and they credited my account. Besides being on hold for 45 minutes.... easy peasy. If another charge pops in, I'll have them reissue a new number/card.
