Prevent new accounts from being opened

I vaguely remember reading something about notifying the CRAs that if an inquiry is made for my report that an alert would be sent to the inquiring agency that no new accounts should be opened in my name. Does this really exist or am I imagining things?

You are either talking about a security freeze or a fraud alert.

It keeps the inquiry from taking place to begin with, thus preventing new accounts.

If you put a "freeze" on your 3 CRA's does it hinder you from obtaining PFD's on accounts in collections?.... I would like to get a freeze but I dont want to slow down the collection agency from deleting info from my account..... Anyone have any idea if a FREEZE would hurt PFD's????

I would like to know the same thing since I have two fraud accounts on my Cr's

Freezes don't prevent reporting, they prevent access to your account via an INQ (hard or soft). This, in turn, is a good deterrent for fraudulent activity.
