I recently moved back to the US after almost 8 years overseas. I am having trouble accessing my credit reports.
Experian won't give me a credit report at all. Transunion and Equifax did, with one of them saying it was locked for promotional purposes.
I checked my score through Zillow to rent a house and saw a credit report and score there, and applied for a Capital One card, which I was approved for.
When I tried to login to Creditwise on Capital One's website, it came up with an error and I called but the agent said the error code wasn't giving him any additional info. He said their advice was to just keep trying to log in.
Does anyone know if all of this is due to not having been in the US, and what I can do to unlock my accounts?
Have you gotten any I.D.? Any bank accounts opened? Register to vote? Auto insurance? Renters/home owners insurance? Guessing you need to establish yourself again. Good luck!
It sounds like you're the invisible man. It's not that you can't get your report, you don't have one. I think I fee a song coming on,
"Did he ever return?
No he never returned
And his fate is still unlearn'd"
Needs more work.
Was the information on your Transunion and Equifax reports correct including name and current address?
Was your rejection from Experian based on an online request or was it a rejection after a written request sent via USPS that included your SSN info and 2 forms of proof of current address like a copy of your US-issued drivers license and a copy of your Capital One card statement or utility bill (not cell phone)?
Have you tried getting a copy online of your Lexis Nexis consumer disclosure? They're used as one of the reference sources for credit purposes so if there's a mismatch in information like your current address or SSN that may need to be tackled as well. They may also require you to follow up via USPS with ID verification info.
