Public Records

Hello, I'm fairly new to most of this. My FICO score is just about 710, so it seems to be fairly decent. I have hardly no late payments on any of my credit cards over the past several years and have paid off a few different student loans. The one part of my credit that seems to really be hurting is because of a public record filed against me back in mid 2003. This was from a property management company that rented out the apartment I was living in, that accused me of not paying one month's rent. It was a big ordeal back then and they ended up throwing me out of the apartments claiming I owed them lots of court money for paying my rent 6-7 days late. Anyways I had completely forgotten about ANY of it, until I started using MyFICO today and it showed up on my record. It's only in the amount of $265, can I simply pay it and get rid of it? I'd love to dispute the charge because the entire thing is ridiculous, but I have no paperwork, evidence, or anything supporting my dispute, I hardly remember all of from 4 years ago. Anyone have suggestions on how I can get rid of this small public record? Thanks!

Re: Public Records

UInfortunately it seemsyou have missed your window of opportunity on this one.  It is a judgement and will stay on your report 7 years at minimum.  Sometimes if paid before entered into the credit system you can avoid it being added at all.  You may want to check with your local county coourthose to see if anything can be done about it.

Re: Public Records

try sending a PFD letter.....short & to the point.

I understand that you say that I owe you a total amount of $265 from 2003. I am prepaired to offer payment in full. After receiving payment you  agree that you will  notify the credit reporting agencies to remove your entry on the above referenced account from my  credit report.

Thank You,

Re: Public Records

Or, they could get pissed that you are trying to negotiate now and file a petition to garnish your wages.
