Question: Mailing address

I have lived in my home since July 2001. Experian lists over five variations of one previous address of which is old anyway. They also have three addresses that were never mine. How long do I have to wait before I can ask them to remove an old address entirely? Can I just tell the credit bureau to remove my old address? Is this something I have to prove?

Re: Question: Mailing address

I'm not sure how much the old addresses matters, just as long as your current address is up to date.  What happens is that the CRAs get addresses from creditors when they report, and often times creditors have different variations of your address.  You can dispute them with the bureaus as old/obsolete, but generally, if a creditor currently reporting to the bureaus on your reports furnished the address, even if it's old or an incorrect variation, they won't delete it.

Such obsolete addresses have zero practical impact and are therefore not worth the trouble of cleaning up.  My reports have some obvious typos and an incorrectly spelled employer name, which again I don't consider worth the trouble of fixing.  Account histories and balances, now those matter, if they had errors then I would work on fixing them.
