Question about Inquiry Damage...

While I've been reading (hours at a time) for a while now, this is my first post.

First, a heartfelt thank you to all of your for sharing your vast knowledge!

My question regards inquiries.

Last June, I was attempting to get a truck financed through a local dealer.  After being adamant that my CR was only pulled once, it took a hit 27 times.  Yes that is correct 27 times.  Now supposedly when looking for auto financing, if it is kept in the 14 day time period, this should minimally affect your score.

Between the different credit unions, dealerships, and financial institutions that they attempted, my score dropped 40+ points within 3 days.  No other changes, no updated balances, nothing like that.

How does the Fico scoring *know* that is was an attempt at auto financing?  If they attempt at someplace like Citifinancial as opposed to GMAC??

Am I correct in thinking that after June of this year those 27 hits won't be hurting my score as much?

Re: Question about Inquiry Damage...

Ouch!

Under the new FICO scoring rules, auto and home inquiries count as one during a period of 45 days, so says under the "Credit Education" tab above.

Were you approved for any loan and could it have reported during that time? Did you have any new accounts report during those 3 days that could have impacted your avg. age? Also, were these points from your FICO score from this site?

The negative impact of those inquiries should have dropped off by now.
