Question about the response i got from a GW letter

Ok, im new to the site and im currently in the process of trying to get some paid charge offs on my credit report. I had an old gas utility bill from 2005 of 248.00. I paid the account off in August. Monday i faxed them a GW letter asking them to delete the account off of my credit report and this is the response i got in the mail today:

Dear XX,

Thank you for contacting SCANA Energy. We received your correspondence, on 10/15/2007, disputing your responsibility of the utility bill at the above-listed service address.

Your claim is currently under investigation. Please allow 30 days from the receipt date to complete this investigation. You will be notified in writing once the investigation has been completed.

Now, all i did was ask them for a goodwill delete, why do they need to investigate.

Has anyone ever had an experience like this before?

Re: Question about the response i got from a GW letter

Sounds like just a standard form letter response to acknowledge your letter to them.  I'd guess a utility co gets a heck of a lot less GWs etc than a CC co. and their response system isn't as complex.  I wouldn't worry about any 'investigation'... and chances are it's probably off already.   Good luck on it!

Re: Question about the response i got from a GW letter

I did a similar GW letter to a utility co. for a paid collection.  I did a follow-up call to see if they received it and the person I talked to said I should dispute it directly with the CRA's.  I did, and low and behold it was deleted shortly thereafter.

You might just want to keep checking your report to see if it has been deleted, then after the 30 days if it is still on there, dispute it with the CRA's.

how do you go about disputing a paid collection. that is correctly reporting as paid in collections with a zero balance???
