Questionable Disputes

1st Premier account that is an unpaid charge off with a balance of $428. According to info on Equifax account was opened July 2015 with a payment marked in Aug 2015 and Sept 2015. Oct 2015 shows 30 days past due then charged off Nov. Other info states DOFD being Sept 2015. How is this possible or is this disputable?

Re: Questionable Disputes

If a 30-late ws reported for Oct 2015, that means the account was 30 day past the billing due date in October.

The DOFD is the date the account first became delinquent under the account agreement, which would be one month before it reached 30-late, and thus became reportable to the CRAs.

It is consistent and accurate for the DOFD to be a month prior to the first reporting of a 30-late.

A charge-off is not normally taken until the delinquency on a revolving account has reached 180-late, but federal regs permit an earlier charge-off if the creditor has basis for determining that the debt is not likely to be paid.  There is no set date that an account must be delinquent before it can be charged-off.

You can always dispute any reporting if you consier it to be inaccurate, but you must provide some basis for the assertion.

The posted scenario does not appear to be clearly inaccurate, but it would depend upon the account details.

If the purpose of the dispute is to remove the account or other legit delinquencies, a dispute is limited to the verification or correction of the specific item of information asserted in the dispute to be inaccurate.  If the debt is legit and is delinquent, a dispute will not result in any requirment to delete the account of any accurate information reported thereunder.
