Hello, I'm not sure if this question was asked before but I was wondering if I paid a court judgment will that raise my credit score? Also, if I do pay a court judgment will it be "refreshed" and remain on my credit report for another 7 years? I have a court judgment that is going on 5 years old now. What are your thoughts and suggestions??
Thanks!!
Judgments, once paid, have a credit report exclusion period based on date of entry of the judgment, so no, the running of the 7 year exclusion period was not reset.
Extension of the credit report exclusion period for judgments is only extended if they remain unpaid, and the statute of limitations on enforceability of the judgment has not yet expired. That is not your situation.
FICO scores based on derogs having occured, not their ultimate payment status.
The removal of the judgment from scoring will require that the judgment be vacated by the court.
Some states permit their courts discretion to vacate judgments once paid, while others do not. Check out your state code for vacature of judgment based on satisfaction of the debt, and if permitted, you can ask the court to vacate.
Thank you for your detailed answer!
